Ask The Professionals

By Tom Flynn & Rocco DeGregorio

Q: What is the benefit to filling my tires with nitrogen?

A: Compressed air is actually not very good for your tires. Compressed air (oxygen) can be destructive to rubber and other tire materials.

As soon as a tire is manufactured and exposed to air, the effects of oxidation begin to deteriorate the rubber and eventually the treads. Over time, it loses its elasticity and strength (i.e., an old rubber band.) Nitrogen is inert, non-combustible and non-corrosive. Oxygen also leaks out of tires faster.

A nitro tire fill is really the safest and most cost-effective way to fill your tires in the long run.

Q: How can I keep my car windows from fogging?

A: With all the rain we have been having and the humid summer air coming, foggy windows are commonplace. The reason your windows fog is that the temperature of the windows is colder than the humid air. That being said, there are a few things you can do.

First, you can adjust the temperature to warm your windows. Also, you can redirect the airflow to blow towards the floor for a few moments. Lastly, there are some chemicals that offer solutions that leave water repellent on the glass and help alleviate fogging.

I-95 Re-Construction (Late Feb.)

PGW hardhats working on the I-95 re-construction discovered this old house foundation, dating back to the mid-1850s, right near where Richmond St. would touch Girard Ave. It was one of many houses bulldozed in the 1950s and 1960s to make way for the highway, displacing many area residents.
